Plea for CBI probe

The high court took up for hearing on Friday a petition seeking a CBI probe filed by the father of a four-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted at the GD Birla Centre for Education.

Moving the petition, advocate Priyanka Tibrewal pleaded with Justice Debangshu Basak for time to contest the report filed by Calcutta police in connection with the case.

On January 18, the state had informed the high court that it wanted to add “gang rape” to the list of charges brought against two physical training teachers of the school who are behind bars in connection with the alleged assault.

“Each and every grievance of the father of the child has been take care of…. While praying for a probe by another agency, the petitioner (the girl’s father) had mentioned some lacunae in the ongoing probe.

“But after the report, the petitioner should not have any grievance and the court should not maintain the petition,” Majumdar submitted.

The accused have been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The matter will be heard again on February 9.
